This drink is fairly dry from the gin and vermouth, but the orange liqueur adds a bit of sweetness. That keeps it from being as astringent as, say, a martini. Dry drinks like this one are good before a meal, to whet the appetite. Bottoms up!
1 oz Gin ( I recommend a London dry, like Beefeater)
1.5 oz Dry vermouth
0.5 oz Orange liqueur (Cointreau works well)
- Pour the first three ingredients into a cocktail shaker over ice, shake, and strain into a cocktail glass.
- Squeeze the orange peel over the drink to release the oils, then drop it into the drink.
