1.5 oz Rye whiskey
0.75 oz Campari
0.75 oz Dry vermouth
- Fill a tall glass about halfway with ice.
- Pour in the rye, Campari, and vermouth, then stir for about 15 or 20 seconds to chill the liquor without giving the ice too much chance to melt.
- Strain into a cocktail glass, squeeze the lemon peel over the drink to release the oils onto it, and then throw away the lemon.
TIPS & MUSINGS:
- This is another riff on the Manhattan, but where you have Campari taking the place of bitters and sweet vermouth. Then you get the dry vermouth providing a counterweight to the Campari’s flavors. The resulting combination is a pleasant surprise for any fan of traditional Manhattans.
