TIPS & MUSINGS
This is my spin on a drink called the Good Doctor from one of my favorite food (and drink!) magazines, Saveur, but I use less amaro and soda so you get the flavors from the Dr Pepper and amaro without it tasting sugar-coated. Different amaros (technically, “amari”) have varying levels of sweet, bitter, and herb. Ramazzotti is on the sweeter, less bitter and less herbal side, so it’s good here as well as for sipping on its own as an after-dinner dessert/digestivo. You can also use Averna, another widely available amaro that’s similar, but it’s a bit sweeter.
2 OZ RYE WHISKEY
1 OZ AMARO (I LIKE RAMAZZOTTI)
3 OZ DR PEPPER SODA
- Pour the rye and amaro into a cocktail glass over ice, then top with the Dr Pepper.
- Squeeze the orange wedge into the glass and drop it in, so the oils from the rind get into the mix.
