Some rye whiskeys have more bite than others. For example, Bulleit rye has a more subtle presence here that lets the ginger and lime take the spotlight. Knob Creek rye has more bite, and made my friend who grew up on a farm declare that this version tasted more “like a real cocktail” than the Bulleit version.
2 oz Rye whiskey
1 oz St. Germain
0.75 oz lime juice
Ginger beer, for topping
2 dashes Angostura bitters
- Mix the first three ingredients over ice in a cocktail shaker and pour into a cocktail glass (or just mix in the glass with a couple ice cubes).
- Top with ginger beer and then add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters on top.
