I noticed that there is a glut of really awesome food conferences happening over the next month and so I wanted to share my favorites here. There are special discount codes for impatient foodies available for two of the conferences – hope to see you there!
Bitten is a platform founded by Naz Riahi that positions food as a pillar of pop culture and explores the space through the lens of creativity, innovation, technology, art, trends, and more. Whether you work in food, or just love food, or have a food product/company idea that you don’t quite know how to execute, this conference is incredibly relatable and chock full of amazing people being super honest about their struggles and triumphs. At this year’s Bitten Conference, there will be talks about the poetry of bees, the origins of fermentation, and how beer informs culture and culture informs beer. Also, the publisher of VICE and MUNCHIES, John Martin, will reveal how to get noticed in food media; Megan Collins will walk us through 2018 food trends; and Dana Cowin, who is a food industry icon, will talk about reinvention telling her personal story; Brian Bordainick, whose startup Dinner Lab raised $10M with events in over 30 cities and failed, will talk about rising from the ashes. There’s also delicious food and drinks served (obviously). Bottom line: Bitten is all about good food, good people, good stories, and good ideas. Early-bird tickets are available until October 5. Impatient Foodies can use the code IF10 for 10% off.
I am totally thrilled to be speaking atThe Other Festival(Oct 14-15), which promotes, celebrates, and supports female founders, creators, dreamers and disrupters. The Other Festival is not explicitly focused on food, but I’ll be there to give a talk on food, as will other food gals, like Amanda Hesser (Food52). The mission of The Other Festival – created by women for women – is to inspire emerging female makers and creators. The festival features all shades of feminine power through music, talks, art, design, and technology. Speakers include Jenna Lyons, Laura Brown (InStyle), Katia Beauchamp (Birchbox), Jennifer Hyman (Rent The Runway), Amanda Chantal Bacon (Moon Juice), Ebonee Davis, Garance Dore and a headline performance from Lion Babe. From pioneer women to grassroot beginners, this festival is for the women of tomorrow who are challenging the status quo today. Use this code for a 20% discount on the ticket price– OTHER20SPKR. Please come say hi when you see me there!
If you’re a food nerd, like me, you’re going to love Food Loves Tech(FLT), which is taking place November 3 and 4th in Brooklyn’s Industry City. FLT will educate and inspire audiences with all the new technologies emerging in the food space, from vertical farming and food delivery to virtual reality menus (say what?!) to plant-based proteins. Guests can cruise FLT’s all you can eat and drink experiential zones all day and attend panel discussions addressing some of the most pressing issues facing our food supply. Tickets can be found here.
